Alison and Paul: wedding on the lake
When Alison and Paul first talked to me about their wedding they were thinking something very small and intimate with maybe only a few guest. It remained wonderfully small and intimate but it definitely grew into a beautiful and relaxed morning wedding.
I woke up nice and early and drove through some pretty crumby weather to arrive at the famous Gazebo located at the mouth of the Niagara River in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I stood there looking out over the water (not much of a morning person, I was probably day dreaming) and I snapped out of my gaze as the sun broke through.
Within minutes of this sudden change of weather Paul arrived which then began the slow trickle of guests stepping out of cars and making there way across the park. Paul was excited for the wedding obviously. It was great seeing him!
Once the collection of guests was complete, a black late sixties Corvette pulled up to the sidewalk and Alison appeared from the passenger side. Her father escorted her down the brick sidewalk to the gazebo where the couple exchanged vows.
It was a beautiful lakeside ceremony. Such a warm, close and intimate experience for being an outdoor wedding. There were lots of hugs and kisses following the service. Soon after it was topped off with family photos before we headed to the historic Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Course for their breakfast reception.
Once breakfast was complete the bride, groom and I proceeded to go on a bit of a photo adventure around Niagara-on-the-Lake. Our first stop was the beautiful Oban Inn where the couple had one of the balcony rooms on the second story. We tried to include as much of the lake as we could throughout the shoot as Paul is a commercial fisherman and they both love the outdoors.
Alison and Paul have a lot of energy but are very laid-back in many ways. I have really enjoyed getting to know these two through the process of having a privilege of photographing them.
Wish you two nothing but the best! I hope you enjoy these selections from their day!
