change & growth: a year in review
Change and growth: It’s funny how sometimes the former needs to happen before the latter can take place. This past year saw a plethora of changes to both my business and personal life. 2012 was challenging, fun, hectic at times but nothing short of incredible blessing and answer to dreams and prayers.
The year was my busiest to date. Looking back across the shoots its hard to believe that I had the opportunity to spend time with so many great people, experience new locations and venues, and travel to a few new countries! In March I became an uncle to Adelynn Paige...needless to say, I’m in love.
A special thanks goes to everyone who helped out with shoots this year. My crew of AndrewG, AndreewT, Dave, Dylan, Isaac, Janelle, Kristin, Kate, Matt, Mike, and Nick helped make wedding days so much easier on myself and added to the fun of the day. Whether it was running to pick up flowers or soothing crying flower girls or just dancing it up with some wedding guests, each of my assistants added their own bit of flavor to the day.
My second shooters this year Bill, Calvin, Dylan, Drew, Eva, and Paige helped me out an immeasurable amount. They were always there to grab those shots that I missed or just make me laugh as a pick me up! Can’t wait to work with you this year.
Nobody treats me better than Jen, Karen and the rest of the team at Lakeview Travel in St. Catharines. They have helped organize a number of destination shoots for me. Their level of customer service and attitude is unmatched. They help keep me organized with my itineraries and go to bat for me when I have special baggage requests. You guys are the best!
In August, I turned the ripe old age of 25. My friends and family rallied and together we were able to throw a birthday bash and fundraiser for Gillian’s Place raising over $2600!
The tireless work of Meagan Eagles of Weddings Tied with Lace was inspiring and so very appreciated. I could not have done the event without you. The support for Mark of LMT Connection and Colin from Cache was amazing. Thanks to all for making my 25th such a memorable night.
I like to think of Photography as an iceberg type of industry. Everyone sees the pretty part floating along but there is so much more to it underneath the surface. Long hours in front of a computer, hours of book keeping, and driving all over the country. I love what I do but I cannot do it alone. My office team has taken the business to a new place. Dylan, Jacquie (and Addy) and Kyleen have been key cogs in the machine that produces the finished products you get to see. They come into the office and help with the thankless behind the scenes work that is rarely seen or truly appreciated. They put up with horrendous working conditions.... My terrible singing, Poco the 12 pound attack dog, and my leopard print snuggie. You guys make days in the office enjoyable and so much fun! THANK YOU!
2012 saw my photography’s logo, branding, work and website have an entirely new look. New goals and directions have been set and I’m very excited for what’s coming in 2013. With a new tweak to the website coming and a major product offering announcement coming in the next few weeks.
There are so many people: parents (especially), friends and family that support me in and what I do. It’s a little overwhelming to think about how much these people have to do with what I am allowed to do in being a photographer. My job is so special to me. I could never repay all of the hours spent in helping with my business. To a much higher extent, in several lifetimes, I could never repay the debt of encouragement, understanding and support these people give me.
I get to live a dream and that dream allows me to capture and document so many other peoples dreams and memories. What more can you ask for in life?
Take care and God bless. Can’t wait to see you all in 2013.
